    Marilyn Mae Woodruff Curry

    July 16, 1923 - April 9, 2012

Marilyn died peacefully on April 9, 2012 at the age of 88. She was born July 16, 1923 in Portland, to Irva and Rollin Woodruff. While a member of the 7th Fighter Wing Women's Air raid Defense of the Hawaiian Islands, she met Lt. William D Curry who was serving in the Air Force. They were married in her parent's Eastmoreland home on Dec. 12, 1945 and immediately traveled to Pennsylvania to attend Clarion Teaching College. After graduation, they moved to Eugene, where they both attended the University of Oregon and where their two sons, William R. and Robert J., were born. In 1961 they returned to Portland where Bill joined his father-in-law in the tax preparation business, Reliable Income Tax Service. Marilyn worked as an English and history tutor in the Portland Public School District. She has a keen, scientific mind and a natural artistic talent and combined the two in a self published book, Science-Art, using the scientific principles of physics and circular motion. In 1978 she displayed the 24 illustrations from the book in a show at OMSI called 'Motion-Direction'. In 1985, they built their dream home along the Willamette River in Oak Grove. And avid gardener, she was a member of the Oak Grove Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, in 2009; and her son, William, in 2011. She is survived by her son, Robert (Melanie) of Portland; grandson, Eric (Michelle) of Beaverton; granddaughter, Brooke (Doug Evans) of Eugene; and two great-grandsons, Ethan and Aidan of Beaverton.
